• Pavers rock or sink when stepped on. This usually means the bedding sand has washed out from beneath the paver, often from a failed joint seal or inadequate edge restraint that let water penetrate the base. A cracked paver usually indicates point-loading from a void below, while a stepped crack pattern across multiple units means the base has settled differentially - often from inadequate compaction during original installation or a water main leak underneath.
