Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux has shifted its product line three times since 2010, and the part you need depends on which generation is in your wall. The 2010-2016 V-Series used a 2.5-inch frame depth with a single weatherstrip groove; 2017-2021 shifted to the VL-Series at 2.75 inches with dual bulb seals; current VX-Series units run 3-inch frames and use a completely different roller and lock mechanism. The label is usually etched on the glass spacer or stamped into the frame edge - look for a 6- to 10-digit code starting with V, VL, or VX followed by the sash dimensions.

We carry OEM ViewLux hardware for the VL and VX lines, plus quality aftermarket equivalents for discontinued V-Series units. The aftermarket rollers and balances we use are spec’d to ViewLux’s original 33-pound sash weight rating, not the generic 25-pound version that most hardware stores stock - that 8-pound difference matters when you’re lifting a 48-inch-wide bedroom casement twice a day. Signs Your ViewLux Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay open. The coil balance - the spring-loaded mechanism hidden in the frame jamb - has lost tension. In Palo Alto’s salt-air exposure, we’ve seen balances corrode through in 8-10 years rather than the 15-year rating, especially on west-facing units that catch afternoon fog.
• Condensation between double panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, letting moist air into the space between lites. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar saturates, the clouding is permanent; the IGU needs replacement, not cleaning.
• Visible daylight around the closed sash. The compression weatherstrip has flattened or the frame has bowed slightly from thermal expansion. On south-facing ViewLux vinyl units, we’ve measured 1/8-inch frame deflection after five summers of direct exposure.
• Lock won’t engage or feels loose. The keep (the strike plate on the frame) has shifted, or the multipoint lock mechanism has worn at the cam. Older V-Series units used a zinc alloy cam that fatigues; current VX units run brass.
• Rattling or whistling in wind. The sash-to-frame clearance has opened up, usually from worn hinge shoes or sagging from a failed balance on one side. The noise is the symptom; the uneven load is what warps the sash over time.
