To identify your series, check the inside face of the end post for a stamped code - ECO-100, ECO-200, or the discontinued ECO-75 residential line from 2012-2016. The ECO-75 used a 1.5-inch post with a proprietary bracket that ECO no longer stocks; we fabricate compatible replacements from 6063-T6 aluminum extrusion and keep three sizes on our Palo Alto truck. Signs Your ECO Window Systems Fence Installation Is Failing

• Posts lean or wobble at the base. In Palo Alto, this usually means the concrete footing has cracked where expansive clay soil pushed against it during our wet winters, then shrank in the dry summer. The post itself may be sound, but the footing diameter was likely 8 inches in original construction; we pour 12-inch footings with rebar cages for replacement jobs in this soil.
• Corrosion blooming at post bases or bracket connections. ECO’s powder coat holds up well, but any scratch at ground level becomes a moisture trap where our sprinkler-heavy lots keep the metal wet year-round. Once aluminum oxide pitting starts, the post wall thins from the outside in; we replace rather than patch because the remaining wall can’t be field-measured reliably.
• Gate sags and the latch misses by an inch or more. The ECO adjustable hinge set uses a 5/16-inch shoulder bolt that loosens over time, especially on south-facing gates where thermal expansion cycles daily. Tightening works once; after that, the bolt hole in the aluminum frame has elongated and needs a bushed repair or full hinge replacement.
• Horizontal rails pull out of post brackets. This happens when the snap-lock bracket tab fatigues, which we see often on fences installed 2015-2018 when ECO used a glass-filled nylon formulation that degraded in UV faster than spec. Current brackets are UV-stabilized; we only stock the improved version.
• Panel sections rattle in wind. The ECO privacy slat system relies on tension clips that lose grip after 7-10 years of Peninsula temperature swings. It’s not structural failure, but the noise carries through Eichler atriums and open-plan yards common in Greenmeadow and Fairmeadow.
